Another extra-parliamentary political party formally announced its support for Venâncio Mondlane's candidacy for President of the Republic yesterday (23) in Maputo..

This is the Democratic Revolution Party (RD) led by Vitano Caetano, which joins the Optimist Party for the Development of Mozambique (PODEMOS), which has already publicly formalized its support for Venâncio Mondlane in the general elections on October 9.

The position of the two parties comes after Venâncio Mondlane lost the support of the Democratic Alliance Coalition (CAD), whose candidacy for the legislative elections was ruled out by the Constitutional Council (CC).

According to a AIMAt the time, Vitano Caetano explained that this union is in line with the ideals of Renamo's former leaders, namely Afonso Dhlakama and André Matsangaissa.

"A change of governance in the Republic of Mozambique is an imperative if we are to achieve political and economic independence," said Caetano, calling on the other parties to join the initiative to support Venâncio Mondlane's presidential candidacy.

On the same occasion, the president of the CAD, Manecas Daniel, guaranteed that more political parties would soon be able to give their support to Venâncio Mondlane.

"I'm grateful for the presence of the RD and all the other parties who will be doing the same in a few days' time. They will appear publicly at press conferences to explain to Mozambicans their desire to see the young Venâncio Mondlane in Ponta Vermelha," said the source, who said he hoped that the movement around Venâncio Mondlane's candidacy would culminate in his election and the consequent return of power to the Mozambican people.
