General elections: Venâncio Mondlane accuses CNE members of trying to make his candidacy impossible

Eleições gerais: Venâncio Mondlane acusa membros da CNE de tentarem inviabilizar a sua candidatura

Venâncio Mondlane accuses delegates from the National Electoral Commission (CNE) of trying to make his candidacy unfeasible by raising a number of irregularities, in particular the request to register the coalition, which is only possible for political parties and not for party coalitions.

The politician Venancio Mondlane has joined the Democratic Alliance Coalition (CAD) and will run for the Presidency of the Republic as the coalition's candidate for the next general elections on October 9.

However, today, Friday (05), without revealing any names, Mondlane said that there are four members of the CNE who, since the approval of his candidacy, have been trying to prevent him from registering.

Speaking at a press conference, Mondlane promised that if his candidacy falls, "the country could be plunged into a climate of tension, the same as in Kenya".

"They (members of the CNE) claim that the CAD should have been registered, which is a big contradiction. The law only provides for the registration of parties and not of a coalition, because a coalition is the result of parties agreeing to form a common front for an electoral cycle. After the electoral cycle, that agreement is extinguished, so it makes no sense to register an agreement that is temporary," the politician explained.

However, for Venâncio Mondlane, "this argument by the CNE is absolutely false, as it has no support from a legal point of view, since the CAD itself does not have its own legal personality".

Meanwhile, to repudiate the act, Venâncio Mondlane and his followers rioted this morning in front of the CNE headquarters.
