Elections 2024: Commonwealth says CNE is confused with a political body

Eleições 2024: Commonwealth diz que CNE se confunde com um órgão político

The Commonwealth Electoral Observation Mission in Mozambique believes that the party structure of the National Electoral Commission (CNE) is more like a political administration body.

According to the representative, Kenny Anthony, the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, this has raised concerns among various entities who perceive that the decisions of the NEC are interpreted as politically biased.

"We are concerned that this perceived lack of trust will result in a lack of faith in the credibility and integrity of the elections," Anthony said on Friday in Maputo at the preliminary review of the 2024 General Elections.

Another issue of concern for the Commonwealth is recruiting teachers to run election campaigns for the Frelimo party. Observers believe that this represents a conflict of interest, as teachers are public servants.
