A confrontation between two vehicles resulted in the death of a citizen yesterday afternoon, Thursday (19), near the residence of the mayor of Maputo city, Rasaque Manhique, in Chiango. The incident involved shots fired by the occupants of a white Toyota D4D van, which ended up fatally hitting the victim.
Meanwhile, in a press release issued this afternoon, the Maputo city council distanced itself from the case, clarifying that the episode had no involvement from the president's security team, as some accounts allege.
"The security guards only provided assistance to the victim," says the document, stressing their commitment to protecting life and safeguarding human integrity.
In the same note, the mayor "categorically" condemned the act of violence and expressed his sorrow at the loss of the citizen, who, as indicated, was a resident of the same neighborhood.
The municipality also reinforces its call for respect for human life and compliance with the law, urging the competent authorities to act swiftly in investigating the case and holding those responsible to account.
