The Mayor of Quelimane, Manuel de Araújo, has called for a march this afternoon in repudiation of yesterday's assassination attempt on singer and political activist Joel de Amaral, better known as "Mc Trufafá".
"We ask all the residents of Quelimane to vigorously and energetically repudiate this macabre act, through peaceful actions, but to demonstrate our repudiation by marching, in protest, in repudiation and solidarity with our brother, Joel Amaral," he appealed.
For D'Araújo it is a sad moment in which the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, is called upon to answer whether the agreement with the political parties will really bring stability to the Mozambican people.
But he also urges Chapo to allow national and international organizations to conduct investigations "on the ground" to ascertain the circumstances in which several people have lost their lives and more continue to be murdered in Zambezia province.
In addition, "we demand that the institutions of justice, the Attorney General's Office (PGR), the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) and the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) quickly clarify the circumstances and causes that led to the shooting of our colleague".
In a message addressed to the President of the Republic, the Mayor of Quelimane recalled that the case of the murder of lawyers Elvino Dias and Paulo Guambe is still a few days away from being clarified.
