National economy expected to grow 3% this year, according to Standard Bank

Economia nacional deverá crescer 3% este ano, segundo o Standard Bank

The economic outlook for Mozambique, according to Standard Bank, indicates growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of around three percent (3%).

GDP is expected to contract in the first quarter of the year, with an improvement in subsequent periods.

The resumption of economic 'stability' is largely dependent on the relaxation of the socio-political situation and the progress of reforms to improve the business environment, according to the bank's chief economist.

Cited by Notícias, Flávio Mussá believes that the reforms are a pillar for boosting the economy, given that the country is dealing with a reduction in foreign support and delays in liquefied natural gas exploration projects.

Standard Bank's forecasts coincide with those made by the Ministry of Finance, which indicate GDP growth of between 2.9 and 3.0% this year.

The new projection of GDP growth of up to 3% is lower than the previous projection of up to 4.7%.

The Medium-Term Fiscal Scenario 2025-2027, released in June last year, predicted growth of 5.5% in 2024 and 4.7% in 2025, after reaching 5.0% in 2023.
