Last Thursday, the Federal Police announced Operation Maputo, with the aim of arresting a 33-year-old Nigerian who was responsible for a five-ton load of cocaine.
According to a note from the Federal Police, published in portal The drug was seized in the Port of Rio de Janeiro in October last year. This would have been the largest seizure of cocaine ever made in the state and one of the largest ever made in the country.
The operation is named after the capital of Mozambique, which was the destination of the five tons of cocaine seized by the PF in the Port of Rio in October 2021.
Operation Maputo began at dawn on Thursday, with the arrest warrant issued for the foreigner actually being served by federal police officers when he landed at Guarulhos International Airport in São Paulo.
The prisoner had been included in INTERPOL's Red Diffusion, which had located him last week in Barbados, a Caribbean island, with the help of the DEA - the US Drug Enforcement Administration.
As part of the operation, three search and seizure warrants are also being carried out in the state of São Paulo, as well as an order restricting the bank accounts of the prisoner in the amount of two million reais.
The foreigner will be taken to the PF Regional Office in Rio de Janeiro for the formalities of judicial detention and will be sent to the prison system.
