The 39-year-old Mozambican international Elias "Dominguez" Pelembe is one of União Desportiva do Songo's new reinforcements. He is already on home soil to sign a contract with the club.
The "wonder kid" arrives at the "hidroeléctricos" at zero cost, as he had already ended his contract with Royal AM, the club with which he had been linked since the 2021/2022 season.
"I'm going to do my best. That's what I intend to do. What you can expect is the best from me. I know most of the players. I've played with them and against them," said Dominguez in an interview with TVM.
After shining in South Africa, where he moved to in 2007, the star returns home to round off his career on a high note. And ambition is not lacking for the star, who is due to be presented to the fans of the national champions this Tuesday. "I'm at UDS at the moment. I hope to help in every way and win titles."
Currently second in Moçambola 2023 with 19 points, four less than leaders Black Bulls, União Desportiva do Songo are aiming to win the title again. And on the continental stage, there is the desire to reach the group stage of the African Champions League, a feat that Mozambican teams have not achieved since 2017.
"Having a squad full of quality and quantity is always good for attacking these competitions. They are experienced players who will help a lot. They're players who will bring more quality, more experience and more results. That's what we're hoping for with the arrival of these players. They are players who will be very useful to the locker room, passing on their experience, their knowledge over all these years. That's why I think they're a good addition to UD Songo," said Carlos "Caló" Manuel, assistant coach of União Desportiva do Songo.
After coming through the youth ranks at Estrela Vermelha, he began his professional career at Desportivo de Maputo (he also came through the youth ranks) in 2004, staying for another three years. In 2007, after some outstanding displays in domestic competitions, he signed for Super Sport United in South Africa.
Dominguez has also played for Mamelodi Sundowns, Bidvest Vits, Polokwane City and Royal AM. (The Country)
