Cuban delegation visits Mozambique in search of cooperation in the area of food security

Mozambique and Cuba intend to strengthen cooperation ties in the area of food security, for the benefit of the populations of both countries. To this end, a delegation from that Latin American country is making a seven-day visit to Mozambique.

Speaking during a working meeting held yesterday, Monday (29), in Maputo, with the Mozambican Minister of Industry and Trade, Silvino Moreno, Cuba's Deputy Minister of Food Industry and Fisheries, Midalys Blanco, stressed that she was in the country to discuss issues of mutual interest, especially food security.

"We are here with a commission from the Cuban Ministry of Food Industry with the aim of identifying and working with Mozambique on an action plan that responds to the needs of both countries, with the aim of advancing the issues of food sovereignty for both peoples and with an emphasis on preparing and training staff," said the Mozambican government official, stressing that "taking into account Mozambique's willingness, we know that they can contribute to improving the situation we have in relation to the food issue we have in Cuba."

The visit is part of the implementation of the actions agreed in the memorandum of understanding signed last November at the Havana fair between Mozambique's Ministry of Fisheries and Inland Waters and Cuba's Ministry of Food Industry and Fisheries.

On the occasion, the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Ludovina Bernardo, explained that the Cuban delegation was looking to the Mozambican trade sector to exchange experience in the food industry, particularly cereal processing.

Quoted by AIM, Ludovina Bernardo said that other areas of interest between the two countries include industry and trade, fisheries, science and technology, health, agriculture and sports.

"We think that this visit will put into practice the decisions taken at the highest level and we, as officials of the two governments, have a role to play in ensuring that the assessment that has been made is a positive one and that the development aspirations of our countries, peoples and our good relations are realized," he concluded.
