The President of the Republic, Daniel Francisco Chapo, had a telephone conversation this Friday (07) with the President of the European Council, António Costa.
The conversation represented a significant moment in the strengthening of relations between Mozambique and the European Union, addressing issues of common interest such as national security, internal political dialogue and strategic cooperation.
During the call, António Costa congratulated the Head of State on his election and inauguration, a gesture that symbolizes the international recognition of the new Mozambican leadership.
According to the Presidency of the Republic, during the conversation, Chapo stressed the importance of the European Union's support in strengthening national security and the country's development.
The statesman reaffirmed Mozambique's commitment to close cooperation with European partners in various areas, including trade, infrastructure and the fight against climate change.
He also stressed that the partnership with the European Union has been essential for the country's progress and emphasized the need to expand this cooperation, especially in strategic sectors such as energy, agriculture and investment in infrastructure.
The Mozambican Head of State also emphasized his government's commitment to strengthening political dialogue.
Another crucial point in the conversation was the terrorism situation in Cabo Delgado. President Chapo stressed the importance of international support in the fight against violent extremism and in providing humanitarian assistance to the affected populations.
In this regard, he stressed that Mozambique has had the support of the international community, including the European Union, to train its security forces and implement development programmes aimed at stabilizing the region and offering socio-economic alternatives to the population.
For his part, António Costa reinforced the European Union's commitment to supporting Mozambique both in the fight against terrorism and in promoting sustainable development.
The leader praised the way in which the Mozambican President has conducted political dialogue and encouraged him to continue with this inclusive approach.
