The presidential candidate chosen by Frelimo, Mozambique's ruling party, Daniel Chapo, is grateful for the trust placed in him and promises to work with all party members to honor the mission of winning the next general elections, scheduled for next October.
Cited by AIMChapo left his thanks at the party's Central School in the municipality of Matola, Maputo province, in his first statement to the press as Frelimo's presidential candidate, moments after being confirmed through the internal election in which he beat his opponents with 94% votes, in a succession process that took three days to determine the consensual choice.
"My first words are to thank the members of the Central Committee, which represents the more than six million members of the Frelimo party in the country, for their trust. To say that we are going to work on the basis of Frelimo's program to ensure victory on October 9," said Chapo, adding that his choice was another mission within the party, like several others he has already carried out, namely as administrator of Nacala Velha, Nampula province, Palma districts, Cabo Delgado province, in the north, and as governor of Inhambane province, in the south of the country.
The source promised to work with all social strata, with a special focus on young people, women and children, including the media, which, in his opinion, plays a fundamental role in the development process, informing and educating society.
It should be noted that the choice of Daniel Chapo in Frelimo's internal elections represents the end of a long succession process that lasted three days, marked by heated debates between members, with advances and setbacks in the search for consensus on the names.
