Venâncio Mondlane, leader of the demonstrations taking place across the country in protest at the election results, reiterated that he is open to dialogue, but has not yet been contacted by Frelimo for this purpose.
"We have already put forward the issues that could be on the agenda for the dialogue table. Unfortunately, I haven't yet seen a consistent and public reaction from Frelimo on the very concrete issues of the dialogue, but we have already put forward some of them," Mondlane explained last night during an interview with RTP.
Regarding the approach of the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, of wanting to talk after the Constitutional Council's decision was announced, Mondlane considered it "totally sad and unfortunate".
"This is a narrative that Frelimo has used for the last 30 years because it knows very well that the only privileged space that any protestor has is in the period between the vote and the announcement of the results. It's during this period that it's possible to make any changes to the falsified results or to restore the figures that were announced," he explained.
Regarding his absence on November 7, at what was the culmination of one of the stages that had been eagerly awaited, he explained that it was due to popular demand.
"I received a popular sentence, so to speak, that I shouldn't move from where I was. It was the people who called for me not to go to Mozambique", he said.
During the same interview, Mondlane made it clear that he wanted to return to Mozambique and take part in the fourth stage of the demonstrations, which he said would be the last. "In due course I will announce the exact date on which I will be heading to Mozambique," he revealed.
