The National Institute of Health (INS) announced that the Ómicron variant of covid-19 is the only one detected in Mozambique since July of this year.
The latest INS newsletter reports that the BA.4 strain of the Omicron variant "[is] currently the dominant strain" present in 44% of the samples analyzed between June and August.
In the other 45% plot, other strains (BA.2 and BA.5) of the same variant that were already in circulation were found, and two new ones (BE.1 and BF.5) appeared, but without health impacts.
"It is noteworthy the circulation of the Delta variant in low percentages in the months of April, May and June and its absence in the subsequent months," adds the document quoted today by Lusa.
The Genomic Surveillance Network (ReviGen) aims to monitor the circulation of SARS-CoV-2 virus variants in Mozambique and between July 2020 and August 2022, 1,245 genomes sequenced from samples from all provinces were analyzed.
Mozambique recorded a total of 498 cases of covid-19 and five deaths in August.
