Covid-19: Mozambique receives doses to vaccinate one million people

The United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) announced that Mozambique is expected to receive, later this week, enough doses of the Covid-19 prevention vaccine to vaccinate about one million people.

Meanwhile, this Monday, the country benefited from a donation of about 840,000 doses of the Janssen vaccine delivered by the United States of America as part of the Covax initiative of international support for vaccination.

According to UNICEF, Mozambique has already benefited from five million doses, out of a total of 12.5 million planned for the country under the initiative.

On the other hand, next Friday, the country expects to receive from Argentina a total of 450,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, of dual administration.

The national health authorities count six million people already vaccinated, of which 3.3 million are fully vaccinated, or one-fifth of the 17 million that are targeted to be vaccinated by the end of 2022.

Mozambique is experiencing a period of low transmission of covid-19 in all provinces, with a cumulative total of 1,938 deaths and 151,488 cases, of which 98% recovered from the disease.

Covid-19 has caused at least 5,144,573 deaths worldwide, among more than 256.54 million infections by the new coronavirus recorded since the pandemic began, according to the most recent tally by Agence France-Presse.
