Mental problems resulting from drug use took more than four thousand people to mental health services in the first half of the year. In this period the police seized quantities of drugs estimated at 50 million meticais.

"They presented with mental behavioral disorders and we, this semester, had 4,189 versus 4,132, which is 1.3%," said an official source.

The highest number of cases was registered in Manica province with 1068, followed by Sofala with 989 cases and Maputo City with 794 cases

The authorities, cited by STV, said that in that period they seized 3,384 kilos of cannabis sativa (soruma), 42 kg of cocaine and 779 kg of heroin. But they also added that the Maputo International Airport is the main gateway for drugs.

The National Criminal Investigation Service said that in the first half of the year nearly 400 criminal cases against drug trafficking and consumption were registered.
