The winner of the 6th edition of the Fernando Leite Couto Literary Prize is announced today

The Fernando Leite Couto Foundation will reveal the winner of the Fernando Leite Couto Literary Prize, the 6th edition dedicated to prose, at a ceremony on Friday (12).  

A total of 68 works were submitted by the same number of authors, including 18 women and 49 men, from all over the country and Mozambicans living in Portugal and Brazil.

A publication by Radio Mozambique says that the jury for this 6th edition was chaired by Teresa Manjate (essayist), Gil Filipe (journalist), Aurélio Cuna (essayist) and Aíssa Mithá Issak (librarian).

Established in 2017, the Fernando Leite Couto Literary Prize aims to promote and reveal new talents in Mozambican literature.

Organized annually and alternating between the genres of poetry and prose, the prize is run in partnership with Moza Banco, Óbidos Town Hall and the Portugal Mozambique Chamber of Commerce.

The award includes a cash prize of 150,000 meticais, editing and publication of the winning work, a 30-day literary residency in the city of Óbidos, Portugal, participation in the Óbidos International Literary Festival, as well as other actions and events to promote and publicize the work at national and international level.
