Meet Nike's urban park made of recycled sneakers

Nike has just announced its commitment to environmental causes by developing an urban park based on recycled sneakers. The project comes as a result of Nike's partnership with London-based creative agency, Accept & Proceed, with whom it had previously worked on the "Move to Zero" initiative.

"The park reflects the need to care about the environment through the use of 20,000 recycled sneakers," the brand reveals, adding that: "the community was involved in the program throughout the collection spaces for citizens to drop off used shoes."

According to Nike, the community can see the steps involved in transforming the shoes into a material that could be used for the surface of the basketball court and the resulting urban park.

Accept & Proceed drew up the plans for the design of the field, playground, bleacher seats, wire fence, outdoor gym, trash cans, in-store campaign presence, and restoration of existing elements.

"With Nike Belgrade, we developed the visual language we developed for Nike's 'Move to Zero' identity, incorporating bespoke Serbian lettering on the field markings to celebrate the local community of New Belgrade," Nigel Cottier, lead designer at Accept & Proceed told local media.
