Meet the five most profitable companies in the world

Fortune has once again released its ranking of the 500 most profitable companies, using accounting data for 2020.

The publication did not leave aside the pandemic and calculated, despite the solvency and productivity capacity of each of the companies, how much companies lost with the economic and financial crisis, caused by covid-19. Among the "500 money-making machines," 69 lost a combined profit of more than 240 billion euros, each losing an average of more than a billion euros.

According to the news published by the portal "Executive", even Walmart, the famous American supermarket chain, which won the first place in the Fortune Global 500 for the eighth consecutive year, suffered a 9.2% drop in profits. In all, the group invoiced 498,912 million euros, in revenue The second opposition is occupied by the Chinese electric company State Grid Corporation, with a revenue of more than 300 million euros.

Amazon, founded by the world's richest man, Jeff Bezos, was awarded the third place in the table, with a revenue in 2020 of about 277 million euros. Last year's negative trend was reflected even in the first half of 2021.

Among the "big tech" companies, Amazon was the only one, which in this first half of the year, fell short of expectations. In the second quarter, it reported profits of 7.78 billion dollars and sales of 113.1 billion dollars. According to 'Bloomberg', the market results did not meet Wall Street's expectations and heralded the end of the pandemic-driven sales increase in the company. The drop erased 80% from Jeff Bezos' 2021 equity earnings.

The fourth place was awarded to China National Petroleum, which in 2020 earned about 298, 2 million euros.

Apple appears only in fifth position in this ranking, with 297.3 million euros of revenue. In this first half of this year, the revenue of the brand founded by Steve Jobs grew 36%, to 81.4 billion dollars.

As always, the IPhone accounted for nearly half of the company's revenue, as sales of the 'smartphone' totaled nearly $40 billion. Apple also saw revenue from digital app commissions rise 33% year-over-year to $17.5 billion.
