Portugal announced this Sunday the closure of its airspace to Russian airlines, following the example of at least 16 other European countries.
According to the newspaper Negócios, the announcement was made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the social network Twitter.
Also Spain has announced the same measure. "Following European Union cooperation guidelines, this measure will take effect on flights operated by Russian airlines using Spanish airspace," the publication reads.
Throughout Sunday, several countries announced the immediate or forthcoming closure of their airspace to Russian airlines. This afternoon, EU foreign ministers will meet by video conference to discuss further sanctions against Russia.
