Liquidation commission has 18 months to extinguish Correios de Moçambique

After the Government decided on the extinction of the public company Correios de Moçambique, last May 25th, it was indicated this Tuesday, a liquidation commission that will lead the process until the end.

With a term of two and a half years (18 months), the commission's mission is to survey all of the company's movable and immovable property, evaluate its assets, and prepare the processes for indemnification, retirement, or reintegration of the more than 300 workers, distributed throughout the country.

Elias Chirindza, Secretary of the Company's Trade Union Committee, informed that since the extinction of the company became official, only this Tuesday did the institution's management give concrete information about the situation of the workers, putting an end to two weeks of uncertainty.

"Yesterday (07/06), we met with the Institute for the Management of State Participations and we were informed that, by the middle of next year, we will have our situation regularized. The management commission, which was created, will determine which workers will retire, how many will be compensated or even rescued for the new company, which will replace the company Correios de Moçambique," explained Elias Chirindza in an interview with STV.

About the company's movable and immovable property and its assets, on May 19, the Executive Director of the Institute for the Management of State Holdings (IGEPE) said that the government was still evaluating their destination.

"We are currently evaluating the assets of Correios de Moçambique, to see if we can resize them, or even capitalize the excess assets and finance other loss-making companies," clarified the leader.

It should be noted that the government decided to close down the Post Office of Mozambique as a result of the ongoing restructuring process in all public and state-owned enterprises.
