The General Registry and Notary Fund has paid 39 million meticais for the purchase of a protocol house for the Minister of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs. At least five million has already been advanced.
According to the weekly Evidence (Ed. 202, April 1, 2025)According to the report, Mateus Saize demanded a new home, arguing that the house left by his predecessor, Helena Kida, was too small for the number of members of his family.
The house left by Kida, "under rehabilitation", is valued at 24 million meticais, less than half the amount drained by the state to accommodate the new minister. This makes Mateus Saize's mansion 15 million meticais more expensive.
Saize was one of the judges advising the Constitutional Council (CC) that approved the results of the last General Elections of 2024 and ruled victory for Frelimo and its Candidate Daniel Chapo, today President of the Republic.
The newspaper reports that Minister Saize's new redoubt has six bedrooms and annexes for employees with two bedrooms and two garages that can each house three cars, as well as leisure space in the backyard.
Quoted by the weekly, the Director of the General Registry and Notary Office, Maria Teresa Buce, confirmed the purchase and said that it was a response to an old complaint about the size of the house, which had been rejected by the Minister: "the house was small".
"... we had already been receiving complaints from our portfolio holders, some of whom have extended families and don't feel comfortable there or housing all the members," he said.
He added that the residence now being renovated could be used for other purposes, including the possibility of it being made available for rent.
