The general tabulation of the results of the local elections on October 11, 2023 reveals the victory of the Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo) party in 64 of the country's 65 municipalities, the President of the National Electoral Commission (CNE), Dom Carlos Matsinhe, announced today in Maputo.

The only municipality where the opposition won popular power was in the city of Beira, in Sofala province.

In Maputo city, the Frelimo party won 235,406 (58.78%) votes, against 134,511 (33.9%) for the Resistência Nacional Moçambicana (Renamo) and 24,365 (6.08%) for the Movimento Democrático de Moçambique (MDM). Thus, Frelimo secured 43 mandates, Renamo 24 and the MDM four.

In the city of Matola, Frelimo won 207,269 (57.23%) votes, against 130,693 (36.08%) for Renamo and 13,204 (3.65%) for MDM. The parties have 43, 27 and two seats respectively.

In the Gaza province town of Xai-xai, Frelimo secured 40,391 (80.62%) votes, against 659 (5.25) for Renamo and 519 (4.13) for the MDM. Frelimo will have 18 mandates, Renamo one and MDM none.

In the municipality of Beira, in Sofala, the MDM won with 112,963 (58%,16%) votes, against 73,302 (37,74%) for Frelimo and 7,045 (3,63%). In this city, the MDM has 32 seats, Frelimo 21 and Renamo two.

In the municipality of Chimoio, Manica province, Frelimo won 76,016 (77.99%) votes, against 17,113 (17.56%) for Renamo and 3,628 (3.72%). Frelimo will have 40 seats, Renamo nine and MDM one.

In the city of Tete, Frelimo won 56,014 (68.85%) votes, against 21,812 (26.85%) for Renamo and 2,722 (3.35%). Frelimo will have 34 mandates, Renamo 13 and MDM one.

In the municipality of Quelimane, in Zambézia province, Frelimo won 38,595 (49.43%) votes, against 36,399 (46.62%) for Renamo and 2,782 (3.56%) for the MDM. Frelimo won 23 seats, Renamo 22 and MDM one.

In the Nampula city council, Frelimo registered 82,258 (51.77%) votes, against 65,985 (41.53%) for Renamo and 6,757 (4.25%) for the MDM. Frelimo leads with 30 mandates, Renamo is second with 24 and MDM has two.

In the municipality of Pemba, in Cabo Delgado province, Frelimo won 38,857 (64.47%) votes, against 16,330 (27.09%) for Renamo and 621 (7.67%) for the MDM. Frelimo has 31 mandates, Renamo 13 and MDM three.

In the city of Lichinga, Niassa province, Frelimo won 24,278 (65.08%) votes, against 11,897 (31.89%) for Renamo and 846 (2.27%) for the MDM. Frelimo will have 28 mandates, Renamo 13 and MDM none.
