CNE assures that the voting process will take place without restrictions throughout the country

CNE assegura que o processo de votação vai decorrer sem restrições em todo o país

The president of the National Electoral Commission (CNE), Carlos Matsinhe, assures that the voting process will take place without restrictions in the areas once affected by the terrorist actions, in the northern province of Cabo Delgado.

According to Matsinhe, who was speaking today in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, as part of the follow-up to the preparations for the vote on October 9, "at the moment, in the districts affected by terrorism, the electoral campaign is proceeding normally".

"So far, all over the country, in all the districts, we haven't received any notification of any point where it's difficult to vote. However, it is necessary for us to take steps so that the material can arrive, because one of the problems is the routes we use to get the material to all the districts," said Matsinhe, in a publication by the AIM.

"This is the challenge we have, but the authorities of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) in Cabo Delgado, as well as the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) throughout the country, are on alert to be able to monitor both the distribution of the material, as well as maintaining order and security on voting day," he said.

Matsinhe said he has not been notified so far and hopes that everything will go well.

"Campaigns are taking place, for example, in Mocímboa da Praia. We've been able to see in the electoral campaign diary what's happening in each part of the country," he added.

Matsinhe assured that in the event of a disturbance to public order and security on the eve of polling day, measures will be taken to ensure that voters in the affected areas can exercise their civic rights.
