The National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) has set up a working committee to investigate the mass escape of more than 1,500 inmates from Maputo Provincial Prison and Maximum Security Prison (BO), which took place on December 25, 2024..

A publication by Sunday newspaper says that so far, the team has visited both prisons to gather detailed information and document the conditions of the inmates and the prison spaces.

In the same vein, the organization stressed that it is the state's duty to guarantee the physical and moral integrity of detainees in its custody and strongly condemned all practices that undermine human dignity and violate the United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners, as well as the Constitution of the Republic of Mozambique and international treaties.
