The extraordinary SADC summit that will decide the future of Mozambique in relation to the conflict situation in Cabo Delgado province, was rescheduled for tomorrow and Wednesday, in Lilongwe, Malawi. This after the advance that occurred last week.
The summit will be chaired by Malawi's head of state, Lazarus Chakwera, who is currently the SADC acting chairman, and will be preceded on Tuesday by the extraordinary summit of the Organ Troika, comprising Botswana, Namibia and South Africa, as well as the sub-regional organization's Extraordinary Council of Ministers.
It is known that, among other issues, "the summit will discuss support for the operationalization of the objectives of the Southern African Development Community Military Mission in Mozambique to restore peace and stability in Cabo Delgado," said another statement from the organization.
Since July, an offensive by government troops with Rwandan support, later joined by the Southern African Development Community (SADC), allowed to increase security, recovering several areas where there was rebel presence, including the town of Mocímboa da Praia, which had been occupied since August 2020.
