The cities of Maputo and Matola have been under tear gas since the early hours of Thursday (07), with the police and military trying at various points to stop the wave of demonstrations protesting the election results.
Today, considered the "D" day of the third stage of the demonstrations, several people took to the streets to express their indignation at the election results announced by the National Electoral Commission (CNE), but also against the situation the country is experiencing.
Initially, the demonstrators tried to hold a peaceful march against electoral fraud, but were blocked on all sides with gunfire and tear gas.
The clashes between demonstrators and the police took place on National Road Number 4 (N4), which links the Port of Maputo to South Africa. At the scene, police were also seen firing tear gas, in this case at some homes.
At that point, the population has set up barricades on the N4 and has fired back at the police with stones, which have also hit some vehicles trying to reach the country's capital or other points in Matola, from the Maputo Tollbooth.
