The capital of the country's largest constituency, the city of Nampula, is abuzz with gunpowder, both real bullets and tear gas.

According to the portal IkweliThe shutdown of the city, as instructed by presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane, who is claiming victory in the October 9 elections, began shortly after 8am, with vehicles being immobilized and traffic stopped.

Then the special forces of the Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM), especially the Special Operations Group (GOE) and the Rapid Intervention Unit (UIR) took to the streets to "dump" tear gas and real bullets on passers-by.

The main avenues and outlying neighborhoods smelled of gunpowder, at least until 10:15.

A coal train belonging to the Nacala Logistics company was invaded by protesters who climbed onto its locomotive, preventing it from running.
