Maputo City registers low turnout for Military Census

Cidade de Maputo regista fraca adesão ao Recenseamento Militar

Maputo City is facing a low turnout for the Military Census/2025, with only 12,311 young people registered by last Wednesday, January 29, representing only 10% of the target set.

"This low turnout is due to the fact that many young people believe that the Census is aimed exclusively at joining the military," explained Jair Tomás, delegate from the City's Recruitment and Mobilization Centre. According to him, the census is not limited to military life and offers significant benefits in terms of access to opportunities in the areas of work and education.

Despite the situation, Tomás was optimistic: "We are on the ground to ensure that the established deadlines are met, and we believe that in the remaining two weeks, adherence will improve."

The city of Maputo has set itself the target of registering 23,066 young people, 13,400 of them male and 9,666 female. So far, 2,311 young people have been registered, with a slight predominance of men.

The Military Census, which began on January 2, is scheduled to end on February 18. (Text: Jornal Moçambique)
