Cyclone Chido, which in December 2024 devastated the country's northern provinces, most notably Cabo Delgado, caused financial losses in the agricultural sector of around five million dollars.
The loss of poultry and infrastructure in some districts of the province has cut the production capacity of at least 300 poultry farmers.
According to the Confederation of Economic Associations in the province, the losses are putting food and nutritional security in the province at risk.
Quoted by Notícias, Yacub Latif, vice-president of Agribusiness, Nutrition and Food Industry at CTA, said that at least 95% of poultry farmers had been affected, out of a total of 600. As a result, the only way out for now is to look for funding in order to get the sector back on its feet.
