China sends internal combustion locomotives to Mozambique

China envia locomotivas de combustão interna para Moçambique

Three internal combustion locomotives manufactured in China by CRRC Ziyang Co. and specially designed to meet the operating conditions in Africa were officially shipped to Mozambique on March 10.

Developed independently by CRRC Ziyang Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of CRRC Corporation Limited, these units mark the first time that a Chinese company has supplied internal combustion locomotives to the Mozambican rail network.

The SDD1 locomotives were specially designed to meet the operating conditions in Africa. To adapt to market demands, the technical team implemented several innovations, such as a lightweight, optimized design and an efficient cooling system.

In addition, the equipment has an intelligent control system that monitors the locomotive's performance in real time, ensuring greater reliability and safety.

The units will be used for both passenger transport and freight operations, strengthening the local rail sector.
