Using real-time images and high-precision data, the Copernicus Earth observation program allows authorities to monitor areas affected by natural disasters and coordinate emergency teams to respond as quickly and efficiently as possible.

The phenomenon that entered the continental part of Mozambique on Sunday, at level 4, from the districts of Memba in Nampula province and Mecúfi in Cabo Delgado, also affected Niassa province, but on a smaller scale.

The city of Nacala, in Nampula province, the city of Lichinga, in Niassa, and the town and city of Pemba, in Cabo Delgado are on high alert as the phenomenon continues in the country. Flooding and landslides may occur.

"And the estimate of the entire population that has suffered or felt the impact, we're talking about more than 860,000 people. But we could have between 200 and 250 thousand people in need of assistance," said Agostinho Vilanculos, from the National Directorate of Hydraulic Resources Management, yesterday in Nampula.
