Chapo assures Mozambique of support to re-establish peace in eastern Democratic Congo

Chapo assegura apoio de Moçambique para reestabelecer a paz no leste do Congo Democrático

Mozambique will support the countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in their efforts to restore peace in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the President of the Republic said yesterday in Harare, Zimbabwe.

"Mozambique's position was to continue to support the efforts being made by Angola, the mediator of the conflict through the African Union. We positioned ourselves in the sense that Mozambique would continue to support these efforts for peace in that region," said Chapo, quoted by TVM.

However, according to Daniel Chapo, now only the United Republic of Tanzania, Malawi and South Africa will continue to send troops to the SADC Military Mission to fight the M23 rebel group.

"Mozambique is a country for peace," he said.
