The Director General of the Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CDD), Adriano Nuvunga, urges the leader of the Anglican Church in Mozambique and Angola to be guided by transparency, democracy and the values of the Christian faith in his role as President of the National Electoral Commission (CNE).
In an open letter to Dom Matsinhe, Nuvunga expressed his disappointment and frustration" with the local elections held last year.
In his Easter document, the social activist recalled that in 2023 Mozambique experienced electoral fraud that "undermined the people's confidence in our democratic system".
In this sense, he says that the CNE, under Matsinhe's leadership, has disappointed the expectations of Mozambicans, and calls on him to "show a sincere interest in correcting this situation".
"In this Easter period, I urge you to reflect deeply on your role in promoting electoral justice and democracy in our country. Commit yourself to ensuring an electoral process that is fair and transparent, following democratic principles and the values of your Christian faith," it reads.
