A clash between Frelimo and Renamo party caravans resulted in five people being injured, four of them lightly and one seriously, during the election campaign in the Mecubúri district in Nampula province, northern Mozambique..

The information was provided today (26) by the spokesperson for the Republic of Mozambique Police in Nampula (PRM), Rosa Chaúque, during the balance of the first two days of the electoral campaign that began on the 24th of this month, stressing that even without arrests, work is being done to this end.

"One of them was seriously injured in the head and received five stitches. At the moment they are receiving treatment and the next steps will be to hold them criminally responsible," explained the source, quoted by the local portal Ikweli.

Still on the aftermath of the election campaign, the PRM spokeswoman in Nampula said that there had been a case related to the vandalization of Frelimo election propaganda material by supporters of the AMUSI party in the city of Nampula.

In this vein, the PRM calls on supporters of the political parties to carry on with the electoral campaign in an orderly manner "without getting involved in situations that could disturb this moment of electoral campaigning".

The electoral campaign, which began on Saturday, will last 45 days, with the general elections scheduled for October 9.

There are four candidates running for the Presidency of the Republic and 37 political forces competing in the legislative and provincial elections.
