Last week, the Mozambican military abandoned their fighting position at the Mucojo administrative post, in the Macomia district of Cabo Delgado province.
The Defense and Security Forces (FDS) are afraid of new attacks by terrorist groups that are circulating in the jungles in significant numbers, as reported by the portal The Voice of Cabo Delgado.
Part of the soldiers who left the Mucojo position were seen walking through Nanjaba village, where they are said to have also asked the local population for water. Halfway towards Macomia, one of the military groups finally had access to a vehicle that took them to Macomia. Others, according to reports, have reached the district town on foot.
There are rumors that terrorists have announced in some villages that an attack will be launched against the FDS. It is said that with the departure of the FDS, the terrorists are already holding marches in several villages. In that region there have already been clashes which have resulted in the death of several soldiers, the portal recalls.
Last Thursday and Friday, the terrorists allegedly went to Mucojo, where they looted goods and headed towards Quiterajo.
Mucojo and Quiterajo have been the two administrative posts where the FDS have found it most difficult to maintain order and security.
