Cabo Delgado: Terrorists seen circulating in Ancuabe district

Cabo Delgado: Terroristas vistos a circular no distrito de Ancuabe

The population of the Ancuabe district, in Cabo Delgado province, experienced moments of panic from last weekend until Monday, after becoming aware of the movement of terrorists.

Because of the tension that arose, several people left their homes in an attempt to save their lives.

The Administrator of Ancuabe, Belmiro Casimiro, confirmed the movement of terrorists in the local villages, "mainly at the weekend and yesterday [Monday].

"When the population realized that there was an enemy presence in that village [of Nanoha/Nanoa], they fled," he confirmed, quoted by the Radio Mozambique.

He said that the situation led to the intervention of the Defense and Security Forces, which encouraged the population to return to their homes.

"And, at the moment, the situation we are experiencing is one of relative calm, and our Defense and Security Forces continue to work," he said.

According to the Administrator, despite the alarming situation, all public and private services in the district are fully operational.

"This shows that the unrest that occurred over the weekend, but particularly on March 31, has returned to normal," he said.

He appealed to the population to remain calm and to report cases of strangers in the community to the authorities.

"The Defense and Security Forces are working. We advise you to remain calm and vigilant, and to return to your communities," he appealed.
