Cabo Delgado: Terroristas matam e incendeiam estabelecimentos comerciais em Palma

At least two people died this Sunday (26), in yet another terrorist attack at the headquarters of the Pundanhar Administrative Post, in the district of Palma, Cabo Delgado province.

According to a Letter from MozambiqueIn addition to fatalities, the terrorist group set fire to informal businesses and looted people's possessions, which are believed to have been taken to support logistics.

"It was around 10pm and one person was killed, but there could be more dead," said Pita Joao Alavalava, a resident of Palma, quoted in the same publication.

The attack on Pundanhar took place near the positions of the Defense and Security Forces. "We don't understand why officers from the Defense and Security Forces and the local force are deployed there, but as these are military matters, any comments can only be made to them," said one of the sources.

The province of Cabo Delgado has been facing an armed insurgency since October 2017, with attacks claimed by movements associated with the extremist group Islamic State.
