Four minors who had been kidnapped by terrorists in the district of Mocímboa da Praia, in Cabo Delgado province in northern Mozambique, have now been released.
The minors had been kidnapped on March 4, when terrorists attacked the Chibau community, looted food and killed one person. The minors in question are now living with their families in the community.
According to sources quoted by Letter from MozambiqueDuring the walk from the village of Chibau towards the south, two of the six children initially kidnapped managed to escape, and the rest, including a girl, remained in the terrorists' custody until around 1pm the following day.
"The girl said that after they reached a certain point, near the Quinhevo river, the terrorists decided to let her go and told her not to leave the other three children until they got home," said a source quoted by the same publication, adding that the terrorists gave one of the four children a cell phone and a briefcase stolen from one of the houses, recommending that she return them to the owners.
Meanwhile, on the same day, in addition to Chibau, the group also attacked the nearby village of Ntotwe.
