A group of insurgents attacked Rwandan forces on Saturday night during an ambush in the town of Mocímboa da Praia, in Cabo Delgado province.
During the attack, which resulted in an exchange of fire between the insurgents and the Rwandan forces, a girl lost her life.
"Yesterday (Saturday) at around 10.15pm, a patrol of Rwandan forces was ambushed by terrorists. The action resulted in an exchange of fire and the terrorists fled," said Sérgio Cipriano, in an interview with Televisão de Moçambique.
The administrator of Mocímboa da Praia assured that the situation is under control and the FDS are on alert to keep the situation under control. "The situation is calm, the fishermen have gone to sea and the people who work in the 'machamba' have also gone to the 'machamba'."
Cipriano also said that there had been reports of a second attack in other parts of the district, but the information has not yet been confirmed by the police authorities.
"Some people say they felt some shots, but we haven't had any advanced data on that yet. The police are still working on it and we'll be able to explain the situation in the future," he said.
Sérgio Cipriano calls on the population to remain vigilant, as this is the first time that an attack has taken place within the municipality's radius.
There are still no suspects, but the results of the forces currently on the ground are awaited.
