The bishop, Monsignor Antonio Juliasse, made the request during a homily in order to allow the population to "mourn and pay homage to those killed" in the massacre.
"If the data can't be refuted, then we've had a massacre here in Cabo Delgado that no one has mentioned before. Added to the other deaths in this war, there are thousands of families to whom no condolences have been paid," said the bishop, quoted by RDP Africa.
The source said that the bishop referred to the results of Alex Perry's investigation, saying that the government and TotalEnergies had omitted data on the true scale of the attack.
This information comes at a time when the church has expressed its commitment to a possible negotiation process to eradicate terrorism in Mozambique in the second half of next month.
Meetings are scheduled for August and September in Mocímboa da Praia and Macomia with around 50 religious leaders, Muslim and Christian organizations, according to the radio station.
