The Commander General of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique, Bernardino Rafael, has expressed his discontent at the fact that the deputies of the Assembly of the Republic allegedly ignored the approval of the Police Law.
The lack of approval of this instrument has obstructed the improvement of activities to guarantee public order and security, according to the commander. He said that the current law is out of date.
"And the country has institutions with up-to-date laws, except the police. It's difficult to get the Police Act passed in this country," he said.
Despite the fact that the ninth parliamentary term of the current presidential mandate has already ended, the Commander called on police officers to vote "with conscience", in the faith that the Police Law will be approved in the next parliamentary term.
"I kept quiet, and went to attend to the concerns of colleagues who are anxious... Mozambicans recognize their police, because everyone has a police member in their family, including those who are afraid to pass the Police Law. In the meantime, they're going to vote. The law is going to be passed. Not all MPs, not all Mozambicans. They are people who have a hidden vision, but who don't present it openly. Calm down. Go and vote. Vote, because the police are also voters. Sometimes politicians insult us, offend us, without knowing that we are also voters. So the message also goes out to the politicians: respect your police, because until then, this is the police you have. Nobody has to stay without voting. Vote with your conscience, with the electoral capacity you have to be able to elect the deputies who are going to discuss our law. They will tell us where it's wrong so that we can work with the police who have the law," he appealed.
