The American band Kool & The Gang will not be performing next Saturday on the campus of the Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) in Maputo due to the instability in the country.
The group asked the event's producers for security guarantees, but they said that the situation was far from the organization's control, which led the band members to cancel the event for a date yet to be announced, reports "Notícias".
"Naturally we are saddened by the situation, but we are also aware that the time is not right to hold an event of the scale that we give to Moments of Jazz," said Belmiro Quive, one of the event's producers, quoted by the newspaper.
Another factor that led to the cancellation of the concert was the fact that the sound equipment was coming from South Africa, and the closure of the border in recent days meant that the material could not reach the city of Maputo.
"In view of the situation, it was decided to postpone the concert to safeguard the integrity of those involved in the production process and the public in general," he said.
This would be the band's second performance in Mozambique, in a project that has already brought musicians such as George Benson, Marcus Miller, Earl Klugh, Richard Bona and many other international artists to Maputo.
Kool & the Gang is a funk, soul, jazz and disco band formed in 1964 in New Jersey, USA.
The collective is known for its mix of musical styles and for producing hits that have marked several decades, especially in the 1970s and 1980s.
