The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) say that the operational lines have already been set in motion to identify and neutralize the group of individuals who stole large sums of money from a commercial banking unit in the Fomento neighbourhood, in the city of Matola, Maputo province.
The case took place early on Thursday afternoon, and as a result of the armed robbery a commercial bank security guard was shot dead and a bank employee was injured.
In the raid, the robbers seized several bags of cash, containing an estimated 17 million meticais. The money was about to be put into a cash-in-transit car.
"The police are continuing to work to clarify this case, and would like to appeal to the population in general to collaborate, in order to report any situation that could endanger public order and tranquillity. We are following our operational guidelines and we believe that the case will soon be cleared up," said the PRM's Head of Public Relations in Maputo.
Quoted by TVM, Rodrigues Tchabana promised further statements to the press in due course.
