The European Union (EU) reiterates that the arguments used by Russia to attack Ukraine are unfounded, and speaks of an aggression against a sovereign country.
Speaking on Thursday at the breakfast space, the European Union Ambassador to Mozambique, Antonio Sánchez Benedito, said that Russia uses Nato's threat arguments to violate Ukraine's sovereignty.
"Nato is a defensive organization, so there was never any intention of Nato to call into question, to threaten Russia's security and on the other hand, Ukraine was not there to enter Nato, in the short term. More like a pretext, first pretext that came to mind to invade, to not recognize the sovereignty of a country. When Russia talks about denazifying, this is an insult to history and especially the many victims caused by Nazism," he said.
European Union ambassador also said that not sending bloc troops to support Ukraine is aimed at preventing the escalation of a nuclear war.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Russia's ambassador to Mozambique, Alexander Surikov, said that Russian troops' attacks on Ukraine exclusively target military infrastructure.
Surikov reiterated that the attacks are a defense mechanism of Russia, against threats from the NATO member countries.
