ARDH files a criminal complaint against PRM commanders

A press conference ban last week perpetrated by the Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM) led the Association for Human Rights Network (ARDH) to submit, this Monday, a criminal complaint against two commanders of the corporation involved in the act.

The president of ARDH, Sérgio Matsinhe, told journalists that the criminal complaint filed with the Attorney General of Mozambique is against the commanders of the 7th and 18th police stations in the city of Maputo.

According to the official, the press conference was held on Wednesday, in which they intended to request the nullity of the amount charged for the Municipal Personal Tax (IPA).

According to the association, the police detained some members of the organization, including the president, and held them incommunicado and without food for seven hours.

"The police confiscated our cell phones and held us at the police station for about seven hours," he described, "without there being an auto."

The criminal complaint also extends to "all the agents who were involved" in the actions of that day, advanced the president of the association.

According to ARDH, in December 2021, it was also prevented from holding a press conference when the association wanted to talk about the new public passenger transport fares.
