Archbishop of Beira asks Mozambicans not to lose hope

Arcebispo da Beira pede aos moçambicanos para não perderem a esperança

The Archbishop of Beira, Dom Cláudio Dalla Zuanna, asked Mozambicans not to lose hope in the face of the post-election violence that has resulted in more than 200 deaths.

"Hope is so often put to the test by adversity, tribulations or even by someone who, for some interest or reason, opposes us, our well-being. Let us build our country, animated by the hope that God does not abandon us and that he will carry out his plan for good on our behalf," said Archbishop Claudio Dalla Zuanna, in a publication from the RFI.

The demonstrations for electoral truth have been taking place for two months and were called by the presidential candidate, Venâncio Mondlane, supported by the PODEMOS party, to reject the results of the October 9 general elections, whose victory is attributed to Frelimo and its presidential candidate, Daniel Chapo.

This Monday (30), the NGO electoral platform Decide announced that at least 175 people have died in the last week of post-election demonstrations in Mozambique, bringing the total number of deaths since October 21, when the contestation of the October 9 electoral process began, to 277.
