Rehabilitation and maintenance work on the extension of Avenida Julius Nyerere, in Maputo city, will restart next Monday, according to assurances from the councillor for infrastructures at the Municipal Council.
"Rehabilitation will resume on Monday, as it involves a new mobilization of resources and coordination with the contractor. We have already reached an understanding to ensure the continuity of the work," said João Munguammbe, quoted today by the daily newspaper News.
The work of filling in pits and laying asphalt will be carried out on the stretch between the Canhueiro/Xinkanhaninhe and Chapa da Igreja passenger transport stops. Meanwhile, from the Chapa da Igreja stop, past the Hulene landfill, to the Expresso traffic light, at the junction between Av. Julius Nyerere and Rua da Beira, traffic is impossible due to the unevenness of the road and almost no asphalting.
It is worth remembering that on Monday and Tuesday mornings, passenger transport companies blocked the avenue along that stretch, due to the level of degradation of the road. Passengers were forced to walk to their destinations.
Also yesterday, a grader was mobilized to reduce the craters opened up by the recent rains and try to make the road more passable.
