The Prime Minister of Portugal, Luís Montenegro, asked Daniel Chapo this Thursday to make efforts to cease the post-election hostilities in Mozambique, as well as to guarantee security for Venâncio Mondlane.
In a telephone conversation, the parties discussed "the need for an immediate end to the violence, the guarantee of security for the population and for all political actors, including the candidates in the elections".
A communication from the Portuguese Republic indicates that the conversation was aimed at reinforcing the Portuguese government's concern about the situation of tension and violence that followed the elections of October 9, 2024.
The Prime Minister reiterated the government's calls for restraint on the part of the Mozambican authorities and all political leaders, stressing the importance of promoting a climate of peace, security and inclusive dialogue.
"I'm here, in the flesh, to make history," says Venâncio Mondlane on his arrival in Mozambique
