The independent presidential candidate, Venâncio Mondlane, is losing the popular support he won during the elections, and there is a risk of violence against anyone who dares to identify with his cause among those affected by the demonstrations, according to businessman Amade Camal.
According to Camal, Venâncio lacked political and organizational strategy when he called for demonstrations to affect the formal economy. What happened, he noted, was that Venâncio damaged his support base in the informal economy.
"The markets. Today you go to the Zimpeto market to talk about Venâncio Mondlane and you might get hit on the head with potatoes and onions, because nobody wants to listen. Tons of products were lost because of the boycotts... it was a complete disaster," he said.
For the businessman, there was a lack of intelligence to bring the demonstrations to a successful conclusion, stressing that they were held on the pedestal of emotion. According to Camal, rashness is a characteristic of Venâncio Mondlane. "I've already told him that".
He revealed that he had already suggested that the politician act like the businessmen: "walk between the raindrops".
Camal was speaking in an interview with Radio Mozambiqueaired on Thursday evening.
