Águas da Região de Maputo aumenta receita em 96 milhões MT/mês

The company Águas da Região Metropolitana de Maputo (AdRMM), created in 2021 to provide the water supply service in the areas of Boane, Marracuene, Matola and Maputo, increased its monthly revenue by 96 million meticais, from 170 million to 266 million.

With estimated costs of 250 million meticais in the period under review, of which 231 million correspond to operations, the company expects to raise revenue to 300 million by the end of the current year.

The information was made known by AdRMM's Commercial Director, Cremildo Fernando, in response to questions posed by Carta de Moçambique about the balance of delegated water supply management in Maputo, at a time when criticism of the management is circulating.

According to the official, AdRMM bills for 3.9 million cubic meters of water, a volume supplied to 250,000 customers throughout the Maputo metropolitan region.

The positive results are the outcome of a series of reforms that culminated in the modernization and computerization of the network and services, a reduction in losses, the fight against fraud and water theft, and the expansion and increase of customers, the manager explained.

AdRMM's aim is to connect all customers to the prepaid system within three to five years and double its customer portfolio, which will increase the level of revenue collection and improve the quality of service.

Regarding water quality, the company explains that it is supplied to the customer after meeting all the optimum standards and in accordance with international standards.

"Even at the time of the floods, which damaged the pipeline and the Boane treatment center, where some people thought the water supplied was cloudy, it was distributed after meeting quality standards," he said.

Water losses stand at 45%, a high volume with costs of 140 million, but which is tending to decrease. Fernando explained that in the last two years the level of losses has been reduced by 12% and the aim is to bring it down further to 33%.

AdRMM is a public limited company wholly controlled by the Fundo de Investimento, Património e Abastecimento de Água (FIPAG), set up as part of the implementation of the second generation of the delegated water supply management framework in Mozambique. (Letter)
